With training at The French Pastry School under her belt, support from neighbors, and the necessary municipal and county permits firmly in hand, the couple built a commercial chocolate kitchen in the lower level of their home in Grand Haven, Michigan. Patty Christopher has been turning out chocolates ever since, but these aren’t just any old confections, as you can see from the photos. They are carefully decorated, well-conceived examples of the chocolatier’s art—one might think she’d been an artist rather than a mental health professional. Consider Patricia’s Coconut piece. White chocolate is combined with coconut milk, coconut rum and shredded coconut, then covered in dark chocolate; on top is a fanciful pattern of circles large and small—they look like happy bubbles. (You can see the more than two dozen stunning choices on the company website.)
